Newark Man, 60, Sentenced In Sexual Assault Case In Central Jersey

A 60-year-old man from Newark has been sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison without parole for attempted sexual assault, authorities said.

Kevin Bethea was additionally convicted of making terroristic threats, criminal restraint and criminal sexual contact, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone alongside Carteret Police Chief Dennis McFadden

On Sept. 30, 2016, at approximately 3 p.m.,  Carteret police responded to a residence in Carteret for a report of a sexual assault. Police found Bethea and an adult female victim in the residence.

The victim reported that Bethea assaulted, threatened, and attempted to rape her, Ciccone said. Bethea was arrested.

A jury convicted Bethea of all charges on July 22, 2021, Ciccone said.

Bethea was sentenced on March 17.
